Build Combos

Move-Build Tricks

Combine move unlocks with role assignments so each new skill creates immediate build speed gains.

Why Move-Build Thinking Beats Single Moves

A move is only valuable when it removes a concrete cost from a workflow. Cut opens a route that saves a detour, Surf shortens an island crossing, and Rock Smash reaches a node pocket that was previously out of reach. Judged on their own, these feel minor; judged against the travel they eliminate, they are the fastest upgrades in the game.

Move-build thinking means pairing each unlock with the workflow it improves and measuring the improvement in one metric: time saved per loop.

Cut + Rock Smash Unlocks the Map Early

Blocked shortcuts are everywhere in the early map, and most of them hide denser node pockets behind a single Cut or Rock Smash tile. Clearing them in the order they appear on your main gathering route compresses the loop without adding any new territory.

Prioritize the move that opens the largest blocked segment on your current route. A shortcut that removes a full detour beats a move that opens a cosmetic path you will use once.

Surf + Fly Collapse Travel Between Islands

Once your base spans multiple islands or split production areas, the biggest recurring cost stops being gathering and becomes transfer. Surf and Fly attacks turn what used to be a long escorted trip into a single crossing, which changes how often you are willing to shuttle materials.

If you find yourself avoiding a production site because of the commute, that is the signal to unlock a traversal move next rather than another gathering upgrade.

Transform + Hover Cover Role Gaps

Transform-style moves let a flexible Pokemon temporarily fill a role your roster lacks, which is most useful mid-game when you are one specialist short of a clean lane. Hover-style traversal fills the same role for terrain, reaching late-game spots your ground team cannot.

Use these as bridge solutions while you hunt for the permanent specialist, and revisit the assignment once the proper role arrives rather than keeping a flexible Pokemon stuck on one task forever.

Unlock in Bottleneck Order, Not Favourite Order

The order you unlock moves matters more than which moves exist. Unlock the skill that removes your current throughput bottleneck first: the longest travel segment, the biggest blocked cluster, or the crossing you repeat most.

Track one loop time before and after each unlock. If the number did not improve, the move was decorative for your setup, no matter how powerful it looks on paper.

Practical Move Combinations

Cut + Rock Smash

Open blocked build routes and stabilize early material loops.

Surf + Fly

Reduce transfer time between split production islands.

Transform + Hover

Fill temporary role gaps and inspect late-game terrain quickly.

Unlock Priority Rules

  • Prioritize movement unlocks that reduce repeated travel.
  • Sequence utility moves around your current bottleneck resource.
  • Tie move unlock milestones to one specific build objective.
