FAQ: Seven Common Builder Mistakes
Frequent planning errors and quick fixes to improve flow, storage access, and productivity.
Why Flow Beats Decoration in Every Build
Almost every base that feels slow to use has the same root cause: the layout was designed to look neat instead of to move materials. A pretty base that forces long walks between storage and stations taxes every single workflow, all day.
Treat movement as the primary design input. If a route between two frequently paired stations is long or crowded, that is a real production cost, not a cosmetic one.
Find the Hidden Bottleneck First
The most common hidden issue is overlapping movement paths near storage. Workers gather at the same chokepoint, paths collide, and everything slows down even though nothing looks obviously wrong on the map.
Walk each storage-to-station route once and mark where paths cross or narrow. Those crossings, not the stations themselves, are usually where the seconds are lost.
Fix One Bottleneck Category at a Time
Resolve either storage, pathing, or spacing in each iteration, then measure the impact before touching the next category. Changing everything at once makes it impossible to know which fix actually worked.
Keep a simple before-and-after metric, such as the time for one full gather-craft-deposit cycle. If the number did not improve, the bottleneck you fixed was not the real one.
Standardize Station Spacing
Give frequently paired station groups one repeatable spacing rule and apply it everywhere. Consistency makes future expansions predictable and prevents each new build from introducing fresh congestion.
Always reserve expansion corridors for later zones. Carving out space now is cheap; tearing down walls later is not.
Patch or Rebuild?
Rebuild only when several bottlenecks trace back to the same core layout constraint, such as a central storage position that every route has to cross. In that case patching around it just creates new detours.
For everything else, patch in place. Moving a whole station set usually costs more time than the few seconds of walking it saves.

Tips
- Avoid adding new stations before solving existing path congestion; more stations usually equals more traffic jams.
- Keep frequently paired stations (like Smelter and Anvil) within one short movement segment to minimize travel time.
- Reserve expansion corridors to prevent expensive future rebuilds when new island tiers unlock.
- Verticality is your friend; use multi-level storage if your base footprint is getting too large.
- Always leave a clear path to the island exit to avoid getting stuck during emergency evacuations.
FAQ
Q: What is the most common hidden issue in base design?
A: Overlapping movement paths near central storage that look fine visually but cause internal 'Worker Stalling' that slows every workflow by up to 40%.
Q: How wide should my main corridors be?
A: Aim for at least 3 units for normal traffic, but 5 units is better for corridors connecting your base to the wild exploration zones.
Q: Should I build one giant base or several smaller outposts?
A: One central base is easier to manage early on, but specialized outposts near high-value resource nodes save massive travel time in the late game.
Q: Why do my Pokémon keep getting stuck behind the forge?
A: Large-sized Pokémon need a larger collision radius. Leave at least a 2-unit gap between large stations and any walls or cliffs.
Q: When should I rebuild instead of patching?
A: Rebuild when multiple bottlenecks originate from the same core layout constraint.
